Reverse Migration

Why reversing migration should be an important agenda for the GoI

In search of jobs, many people migrate from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to metros and cities. With the influx of migrants pouring in, there remains a concern for social crimes and unwanted social aberrations. However, a few steps can ensure that reverse migration takes place to answer this dilemma. Some of the points are-

  1. Development of a limited number of smart cities nearby places of manufacturing units, or light industries in some landlocked states such as North-Eastern states.
  2. Low-cost manufacturing units being set-up in areas of lower per capita income states, with lesser use of resources from the state.
  3. Developing Tier-II and Tier-III cities with an adequate transportation and aviation system. This will enable reverse migration.
  4. Developing the sewage and municipal system of Tier-II and Tier-III cities for outsiders to settle in. Making policy changes in municipal corporations in cities, for a greener and cleaner city.
  5. With the aging population in Tier-II and Tier-III cities, we must look to work on for a comfortable push for younger generations to settle in these cities.

This calls for capping the air-fares in units, and working on setting up industries in smaller scales with adequate exposure to marketing to different countries and states. For the new aviation policy to happen, the amount can be capped as below-

  1. Below 45 minutes till INR 2,500
  2. Below 75 minutes till INR 6,500
  3. Below 120 minutes till INR 9,500
  4. Below 150 minutes till INR 12,500
  5. For below 180 minutes or more till INR 15,500

The new airports that can be constructed can be in North East, Kashmir, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar, which will have a geographical spread for the airports, by filling up pockets in geographies.
